Hatchepsut: The Female Pharaoh by: Joyce E. Tyldesleye

For all the boys that believe that women are only good for house chores, here is a book that proves you wrong! Hatchepsut: The Female Pharaoh tells the story of a woman living in Egypt whose husband happens to be a Pharaoh, and due to his bad health, she is obligated to make his decisions regarding the country. In Egypt there was not much sexism during the time, because women were considered very important. They were mothers, daughters, and wives. In order to keep her country safe and under rule, Hatchepsut agreed to rule the country as if she were her own husband. Strong and proud, she delivered law after law, and even began to dress like a man to specify her power, making the time period a great one.

Important Quote: "early 18th Dynasties accepted their womenfolk were capable of assuming a prominent role in state affairs and most importantly were happy to acknowledge the unique significance attached to the positions of King's wife and Kings mother" (page 48 Teldesley).

This quote shows that we the ladies can be just as powerful as men. Also that there was a place where we were definitely NOT taken for granted. Recommended mostly for women, but guys can learn a great deal from this well written and interesting biography.
